How can we help?

Most answers below. For everything else, email hello@nooklo.com and we'll get back to you.

Account

I forgot my password.
Tap "forgot password" on the sign-in screen. You'll get a 6-digit code by email — enter it in the app, then set a new password. No magic links.
Can I change my username?
Yes, from the You tab → Settings → Account. Heads up: changing your username means friends searching for the old one won't find you, so let them know.
How do I delete my account?
You tab → Settings → Account → Delete account. Your sessions, friends, and reflections are removed permanently. If something's broken and you'd rather we fix it than have you leave, email hello@nooklo.com.

Friends & sessions

How do I add a friend?
Tonight tab → "+" → search by their exact username. Send a request. They'll get a push notification and can accept from inside the app.
A friend's status says "offline" but I can see they just opened the app.
Three reasons that might happen: they haven't started a session yet (online ≠ studying), they have appear offline turned on, or your app needs to refresh — try pulling down on the Tonight tab.
How do I join a friend's session?
Tonight tab → tap the friend who's currently studying → tap "join session." You'll drop into their loft and the synced timer takes over.
How many people can be in a session?
Up to four right now. Larger groups are something we're exploring for a later release.

App blocking

Why is Nooklo asking for Screen Time access?
App blocking uses Apple's Family Controls framework. We need Screen Time access to silence the apps you pick during your focus sessions. Nooklo never sees which specific apps you chose — that information stays on your device.
What's the difference between "block during study" and "always block"?
Block during study shields your picked apps only during focus blocks and free-study sessions. They unlock automatically when the session ends. Always block keeps them shielded around the clock, overriding everything else, until you turn it off.
How do I unblock an app mid-session?
End the session. That's the only way. The whole point is to make it slightly harder to break the focus block — opening Nooklo to end a session is a higher-friction moment than tapping an icon, and that small friction is usually enough.

Notifications

When does Nooklo send push notifications?
Only for: friend request received, friend request accepted, friend going online, Nook invitation received, and scheduled Nook starting now. We don't send anything during a focus block — that would defeat the point.
How do I turn off notifications?
iOS Settings → Nooklo → Notifications. You can also turn off individual types from inside the app under You → Settings → Notifications.

Privacy

Who can see when I'm studying?
Only friends you've explicitly added. Nobody else. No public profile, no discoverability by school, no leaderboards.
Can I hide my activity?
Yes. Turn on appear offline in You → Settings. Friends will see you as offline regardless of what you're doing in the app.
Are my reflection notes private?
Completely. Per-block notes and final reflections are visible only to the person who wrote them. They're stored under a row-level security rule that the database itself enforces — even if our app code had a bug, nobody else could read them.
